Business Details
At the time of building the monastery, the Benedictine monks settled on the Sacred Hill of Pannonia in 996 also revived the viticulture of the region first introduced by the Romans. 50 years after the confiscations following World War II, the Archabbey Pannonhalma and the MKB Bank wakened this tradition again by creating new plantations and winery. Two-thirds of the newly planted vineyards of 50 ha total area were devoted to white (Rheinriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Welshriesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc) and one-third to red grape varieties (Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc). The cellar technology fitted to the composition of the varieties and based on gravitational material movement is suitable for producing more than 300.000 bottles of quality wine a year.
